“What must I do to be saved?” were the words uttered two thousand years ago by a man who heard the liberating message of the Gospel, that we COULD be saved.
John 3:16For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
The first step to being saved is understanding what salvation is. Salvation is the forgiveness of our sins….sins that without such forgiveness would consign us to everlasting torment.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The sin of man separates him from God and righteousness, but God has given us His Son, Jesus Christ, So that if we would believe in Him, We might be saved from sin.
The second step of salvation is the realization that we need salvation, All of us, for we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory, that is the presence, of God. We stand wanting in the light of judgment.
Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
The third and final step of salvation is the reaching out to God for His grace, which He so freely gives all who ask. The simple realization that we are not doing very well as master of our own destinies and are willing to give up our fleeting life and our unrighteous will, for His everlasting life and His Holy and gentle will. By reaching out to Jesus Christ and calling Him Lord and accepting Him as that Good shepherd, (who will lead you into the paths of righteousness) we accept the grace of His work on the cross and we are saved. We do this by believing in Jesus and confessing Him As Lord
Romans 10 9that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”
If you are reading this today and for the first time understand that God is offering you the gift of salvation, that you don’t have to earn it or be good enough to receive it, and you would like to accept Jesus as your Lord, say this little prayer that follows and contact someone (you can e-mail me) and let them know that Jesus is your Lord.
Salvation Prayer
Dear Jesus I am a sinner. I am unworthy to be in your presence. I know that the sins that I have committed have a penalty due with them. But Jesus your Bible says that if I will confess you Lord, that you will take away my sin, and the death that accompanies it, And that you would replace that with your eternal life. Jesus I now call upon you as my Lord. Jesus I accept you as the leader of my life. The captain of my ship. I put myself in your care dear Lord Jesus and I ask you to forgive my sins, as I determine this day to depart from them. Be my Lord dear Jesus.
Amen
